Category templates
BigCommerce standard
This template is the same as the one that BigCommerce brings by default in its Cornerstone theme.
Scaffolding adds the "no image" variant for when you don't want to display category image on the page, but you want to load the category image to be used in other resources like Mega menu or Colorful menu.
Colorful menu category template
This template is the same as the one that BigCommerce brings by default in its Cornerstone theme with the addition that shows Colorful menu for the category, there is a version with image of the category and another one that does not show it.
In those categories that you want to display Colorful menu, just choose one of the two variants of this template. If you want to display CFM in all (or almost all) categories, the most practical thing to do is to change the default template for all categories.
Subcategory template
This template, added by Scaffolding, allows you to list products assigned to a category but grouped by subcategory.
This enables you to showcase featured products from each subcategory, inviting users to explore more products within those subcategories.
For instance, under a 'Fashion' category, you can highlight products for Women and Men separately, encouraging users to browse these specific subcategories.
The displayed products are those assigned to the respective category, similar to standard BigCommerce navigation. The difference lies in their grouping by subcategories.
Regions
Home below featured products
This region is located immediately after the featured product feed.
Top bar
Top bar regions are located at the extreme top of the site. They are ideal for placing text messages, which without being intrusive, have a lot of visibility.
For example, to advertise free shipping on purchases above a certain value.
There are 3 Top Bar regions:
- The first one is global for the whole site
- The second is also global, but it is not shown in the home page, to edit this region, you must be in any page except the home page (otherwise, it does not appear)
- The third one is only shown on the page in question
Above and Below Carousel
For the home page, there are two regions, one above the carousel and one below.
If the carousel is not active, the Below carousel region is shown below and Above carousel.
Headr bottom
Header bottom regions are located at the bottom of the header, just above the Colorfun Menu if active and the page content.
There are 3 Header bottom regions:
- Header bottom global: it is global, it is shown in the whole site
- Header bottom No global home, it is shown in all the site except the home page, to edit it you have to click on a page other than the home page
- The third one, it is only shown on the page in question
Bottom bar
Bottom bar regions are located at the extreme bottom of the page.
There are 2 Bottom Bar regions:
- The first is only displayed on the page in question
- The second is global for the whole site
Home above featured products
This region is located immediately above the featured product feed.
Home below featured products

Home below top products
This region is located immediately after the popular product feed.
Category below header
On the category pages, just below the site header, before the Colorful menu and the page content, there are two regions:
- The first is global for the entire site
- The second is only displayed in the category in question
Category Sidebar
ToDo: screenshot when the region name has been corrected
It is located below the sidebar (on the left side of the screen) on desktop and before the product listing on mobile.
Category below content
Two regions are available at the end of the content:
- The first is only displayed in the category in question
- The second is global for all categories
Product Tab
Scaffolding incorporates the possibility of adding in the product page, a local tab (only visible in the product in question) or global, shown as a tab in all products, through the Product tab regions.
These are special regions because once a widget is added and the changes are saved, these regions become product tabs.
To set the tab name, the name must be entered in the first Layout of the region.
In the example, My new tab is the name of the first Layout of the Product tab region:
So after clicking Save, the My new tab will appear:
Two things to note:
- To edit the content of the region, since it is inside a tab, click on Preview, click on the tab in question and then go back to Design by clicking on the Design button
- To delete the tab, all layouts must be deleted, leaving the region empty. When saved, the tab will be deleted.
Product Description
On the product page, at the end of the description, you have a local scope region, i.e. it is only visible on the product to which you are adding the widget to the region.
Miscellaneous
Preview the shopping cart when adding a product
When adding a product to the shopping cart, the cart is pre-displayed in a non-intrusive way, both on Desktop and Mobile.
Bullets to highlight product features
If you start the product description with a list of bullets, these will be repositioned when displaying the product next to or below the product images.
Example:
Bullets listed at the beginning of the description, are repositioned:
Custom fields with names beginning with "_" are not displayed
ToDo: Confirm that the background image parsing is working
If the name of a custom field begins with the underscore character (_), it will not be displayed on the product page.
This is usually used when using custom fields whose functionality is to operate with it and is not intended to be shown to the customer.
For example, suppose we want to highlight products by displaying a badge over the product image:
We could add to the products we want to highlight, a custom field named _badge and assign as value the name of the image we want to display (the image must be uploaded with Image manager), example:
Product images in Desktop pop-up window
On desktop, clicking on a product image opens a pop-up window to view enlarged images.
